Program

Morning sessions:

  • Following an introduction to the topic, the expert faculty will provide an overview of the main valuation approaches, tools and techniques used in the pharma and biotech world.
  • You will then be taught the principles for assessing the soft factors of a biotech company (of which management is the most important one).
  • The next step is a module covering tools to calculate the value of a biotech company, which will be demonstrated by a case history and a little exercise using the Discounted Cash Flow method.

 Afternoon sessions:

  • The afternoon is focused on the valuation of a pharmaceutical product in development. Following an explanation of the product valuation methods used in pharma and biotech, we will focus (thoroughly) on the most commonly used tool, i.e. the rNPV or eNPV (risk-adjusted Net Present Value or expected Net Present Value). You will have a chance to practice this tool during an excel-based exercise on laptops. What’s more: you will receive a CD-ROM with the tool so that you can use it immediately back in the office!
  • The final module will be focused on how to structure the licensing deal between companies, covering issues such as milestone and royalty payments.
