The 18th annual BIO-Europe® international partnering conference was held in Hamburg, Germany November 12–14, 2012 at the CCH Congress Center Hamburg. Over 3,000 attendees from 48 countries had access to 3,000 projects available for partnering over three days. Delegates also scheduled upwards of 15,000 one-to-one partnering meetings utilizing partneringONE®, EBD Group’s leading conference networking solution.
“Dealmaking in the life sciences continues to be strong, and the Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein region was an ideal location due to its progressive life science research sector,” saidCarola Schropp, President of EBD Group. “Overall, we are seeing growth continue in partnering, especially in early stage assets and licensing.”
“The life sciences sector constitutes one of the world’s largest growth markets. In Germany, the number of biotech companies has quadrupled in the past ten years. Together, Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg are doing their best to continually advance this life science location and to ensure the best possible basic conditions for entrepreneurs and scientists by international standards,” said Dr. Horst-Michael Pelikahn, State Secretary, Hamburg Ministry of Science and Research. “2012 is the second time after 2007 that BIO-Europe is taking place in Hamburg. The participants’ strong interest in this year’s BIO-Europe attests to the outstanding program and the concept of the conference that has been developed by the organizers and their partners.”
In addition to capitalizing on networking opportunities, BIO-Europe delegates participated in program workshops and panels featuring high-level CEOs and industry leaders, and attended 174 company presentations. The exhibition was made up of 124 exhibitors from 19 countries.
BIO-Europe 2013 will be held November 4–6, 2013 in Vienna in collaboration with local host Life Science Austria Vienna (LISAvienna), the life science cluster of the Republic of Austria and the City of Vienna.
“Again, we were impressed by EBD Group’s excellent organization of BIO-Europe in Hamburg 2012. This year, 42 companies joined LISAvienna to present their innovative technology. We invite life science professionals to explore the innovative potential of Vienna and are looking forward to hosting BIO-Europe 2013,” said Johannes Sarx, MBA, B.Sc., Managing Director, LISAvienna.
