The eighth annual BIO-Europe Spring® international partnering conference took place last week, March 10–12 in Turin, Italy. The event, held at the Oval Lingotto conference center, welcomed more than 2,000 participants representing over 1,200 companies from 42 countries vying for 2,115 licensing opportunities.
More than 10,700 one-to-one meetings took place at the event between companies across the life science value chain, from large biotech and pharma companies to financiers and innovative startups.
“BIO-Europe Spring was a success both in terms of the high level of delegates that attended the event and in putting the spotlight on Turin as an international business destination and leader in the Italian bio-business community,” said Florian Schoenhammer, Group Managing Director, EBD Group. “As the springtime counterpart to our fall event, BIO-Europe Spring is a benchmark for life science partnering for the year, and I think the 2014 edition has successfully demonstrated the prosperity and vibrancy of the sector.”
Host organizations for the 2014 event included the Torino Chamber of Commerce, within the framework of Piemonte Health & Wellness, a project funded by Regione Piemonte; Unioncamere Piemonte; the local Chambers of Commerce; and Piemonte Agency with the support of the bioPmed innovation cluster.
“The Torino edition of BIO-Europe Spring has been a great success for all of us: over 2,000 participants, 1,200 companies, 11,000 one-to-one meetings, 42 represented countries. In addition to these remarkable figures, I want to underline the positive feedback we received about our city: the locations, the leisure and cultural program, the high quality services have positively impressed participants and EBD staff. I’m sure that the connections born in these days will carry on successfully in the future,” said Alessandro Barberis, President of Torino Chamber of Commerce.
“Hosting BIO-Europe Spring 2014 in Torino has been a great opportunity for the entire Piemonte region. Our enterprises are very satisfied with the results they got and the great potential of all the contacts they had during these days. We are very proud of the opportunity we had to show to the world the excellences of our region which is rich in innovation and becomes more and more an area of international reference for the scientific-industrial frontier through its network of institutions, companies, technology hubs and universities,” saidAgostino Ghiglia, Regional Minister for Innovation and Research.
The 2015 edition will be held March 9–11 in Paris, France, and will be hosted by Medicen Paris Region biocluster, a cluster for innovative therapies and advanced technologies in healthcare.
“The Medicen Paris Region biocluster is highly competitive, and works with our partners on synergies and innovative, collaborative projects that have enabled our region to become one of the global centers for translational medicine and a strength of the Paris region in central Europe,” said Jean Roch MEUNIER, General Manager of Medicen Paris Region biocluster. “We are thrilled to host BIO-Europe Spring 2015 and welcome international companies to experience the Paris region’s capacity for innovation.”
