World leaders in the life science industry to gather in Duesseldorf for the 17th annual BIO-Europe® partnering conference

Zurich, Switzerland and Duesseldorf, Germany – September 19, 2011: From October 31 to November 2, the world's life science leaders and dealmakers will gather in Duesseldorf, Germany for BIO-Europe® 2011, Europe's largest partnering event serving the global biotechnology industry. Now in its seventeenth year, the three-day conference will host more than 3,000 attendees representing about 1,800 companies who will engage in more than 15,000 one-to-one meetings.

BIO-Europe will feature a diverse schedule of panels and workshops devoted to effective partnering and development strategies, as well as plenary sessions focusing on nontraditional partnerships. As one of the leading biotech regions of Germany, Duesseldorf is a perfect backdrop for exploring dealmaking in a rapidly changing healthcare industry.

"We are looking forward to an extraordinary program and turnout for BIO-Europe 2011," said Carola Schropp, President of EBD Group. "The event always presents dealmakers with an unrivaled opportunity to partner and network effectively with global leaders in the life science industry."

Dr. Bernward Garthoff, Chair of BIO.NRW, the regional host of BIO-Europe 2011, added, "BIO-Europe is a landmark event on the calendars of business development executives from North Rhine-Westphalia. It is a perfect platform to raise our international profile and forge stronger links with the innovators from around the world."

North Rhine-Westphalia is home to a powerful, well established base of pharmaceutical companies, a robust network of entrepreneurs, academic researchers, and venture capitalists. It also accounts for 32 percent of Germany's pharma-biotech turnover with more than 300 life science related companies, including well known ones such as Bayer HealthCare, Bayer CropScience, Evonik, Henkel, Gruenenthal and UCB, and maturing firms like Qiagen and Miltenyi Biotec.

BIO-Europe 2010 saw 14,661 one-to-one meetings conducted by 2,906 attendees from 1,688 companies. The event features partneringONE®, the industry's most advanced web-based partnering system, enabling delegates from all parts of the biotechnology value chain to quickly identify, engage and enter into strategic relationships that drive their business successfully forward.
