The BioPharm America program kicks off with a big day on Wednesday. Two concurrent workshops will open the morning activities. The first, “Does pharma see value in immunotherapies?” will be moderated by Madhusudan V. Peshwa of Maxcyte, with panelistsKarin Hehenberger of Coronado Biosciences; Randi Isaacs of Novartis; Edward Lanphier of Sangamo BioSciences; and Ronald A. Pepin of Celldex Therapeutics.
The other workshop, “Let’s make a deal because ‘Biotech has talent,’” will give audience members 30 seconds to pitch their company, product, technology or service to a star-studded panel of judges. This workshop is moderated by Douglas MacDougall of MacDougall Biomedical Communications, and judges include Steven Edelson of BioCentury Publications, Inc.; Gregor Fachinger of Bayer HealthCare; John Gustofson of AstraZeneca; Tomas Landh of Novo Nordisk; James O’Mara of Ironwood Pharmaceuticals; Deanna Petersen of Shire; and John Sorvillo of Amgen.
Wednesday’s opening remarks will be followed by a special announcement of the 2012 Fierce 15 with John Carroll of FierceBiotech, followed by a keynote address by David Meeker of Genzyme, a Sanofi company. Afternoon panels split into a business development and strategy track and a spotlight track.
Thursday’s Keynote panel “From start-up to commercial company and the challenges in between: Could we do it again today?” will be moderated by Karen Bernstein of BioCentury with speakers Geoff MacKay of Organogenesis; David Meeker of Genzyme; Lonnie Moulder of TESARO; and Richard Pops of Alkermes plc.
Friday’s SciBX Innovation in Drug Discovery & Development Summit, held in partnership with Nature Publishing Group and BioCentury Publications Inc. is an exciting addition that will focus on opportunities afforded by macrocycles and constrained peptides in the area of targeting intracellular protein-protein interactions, their potential for improved oral bioavailability and related benefits in advance of a roadmap white paper. Speakers on the SciBX Summit panel include Bruce Booth of Atlas Venture; Spiros Liras of Pfizer; Barry Morgan of GlaxoSmithKline; Patrick Reid of PeptiDream Inc.; Tomi Sawyer of Aileron Therapeutics; and Gregory Verdine of Harvard Medical School/Third Rock Ventures.
