BioPharm America™ Partnering Conference Introduces the Power of Productive Partnering to U.S.
Inaugural Event in Atlanta Exceeds All Expectations
Atlanta, GA., September 16, 2008: Leaders from the international biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries gathered last week for the first annual BioPharm America™ partnering conference. The conference was held on September 9–10 in Atlanta, Georgia. BioPharm America drew 400 delegates representing over 258 companies from 24 countries who engaged in over 900 one-to-one partnering meetings. In addition, there were 11 workshops and panel sessions and 60 presentations by biotech companies seeking financing, licensing opportunities or partners for advancing the development of intellectual property.
By all measures the BioPharm America conference exceeded delegates' expectations in facilitating their ability to meet with numerous potential partners and discuss in- and out-licensing, financing and other collaborative programs.
Commenting on the conference, Donald Wilson, President and CEO of Endacea, an emerging biotechnology company based in North Carolina's Research Triangle Park, said, "BioPharm America was an extremely effective conference and an excellent use of my time. I accomplished more here in two days than I have in a long time. Based on my meetings I had here in Atlanta, I can now say that I have spent too much time chasing venture capital financing and not enough time at EBD Group's partnering conferences."
Dr. Edwin Ades, Associate Director for Laboratory Science, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, remarked: "BioPharm America was a great experience. This event proved to be an excellent way for me to learn about new science and opportunities for collaboration. I had eight meetings at the conference producing three opportunities that we will follow up on."
Georg Buchner, Vice President, Corporate and Business Development, Novacta Biosystems, a UK-based anti-infective therapeutics company, stated, "Like all EBD Group partnering events, BioPharm America makes meeting people and discovering new opportunities easy. The conference is a good way for European companies to tap into the U.S. market, and the partneringONE™ system efficiently facilitates connections and helps partnerships get started. Having regularly attended EBD Group's other events, I can confidently say that EBD is a guarantee for partnering productivity."
Phillip Street, Chairman of Southeast BIO, said, "Southeast BIO (SEBIO) was pleased to support the inaugural BioPharm America conference. We were thrilled to see the high level of participation from companies throughout the Southeast and look forward to the conference returning to the region."
Charles Craig, President of Georgia Bio, said, "The success of the inaugural BioPharm America conference in Atlanta reflects the strength of the life sciences industry in Georgia and the Southeast. It also demonstrates that EBD has the experience to connect the Southeast's companies with international partners. We look forward to the return of BioPharm America to Atlanta."
Carola Schropp, President, EBD Group, said, "We extend our thanks to the State of Georgia, GeorgiaBio, and the entire Southeast life science community through the leadership of SouthEast BIO and the North Carolina Biotechnology Center for helping make the first BioPharm America conference a huge success. I also want to thank our numerous supporting sponsors for their generous assistance in hosting this event.
EBD Group is very excited to bring our proven format for partnering to the North American marketplace.
