San Francisco Welcomes BioPharm America™ and ChinaBio® Day

San Francisco Welcomes BioPharm America™ and ChinaBio® Day
Leaders of the international bio-pharmaceutical industry come to the birthplace of biotech for three days of high level networking and dealmaking

Carlsbad and Boston, MA, USA; July 28, 2009: Leaders from the city of San Francisco and luminaries from both the California and the international biotech and pharmaceutical industry today officially welcomed the BioPharm America™ 2009 and ChinaBio® Day conferences. To be held at the San Francisco Marriott, from September 15–18, 2009, the events will bring together decision makers from all sectors of the international bio-pharmaceutical industry for three days of high level networking and dealmaking.

These unique partnering events are specially designed to facilitate collaborations between regional biotech firms and global industry players such as AstraZeneca, Bayer Schering, Exelixis, Genentech, Gilead, Johnson & Johnson, Merck & Co., Inc., Pfizer, Takeda and UCB. With an additional emphasis on China, the partnerships developed from these events will help ignite new ideas and business opportunities resulting in future healthcare innovations.

Now in its second year, BioPharm America is based on the formula used by the largest biotech partnering events in Europe–BIO-Europe and BIO-Europe Spring®–that have generated in the past year over 17,000 one-to-one business meetings largely between biotech firms and pharma companies.

Michael Cohen, Director, San Francisco Economic and Workforce Development, said, "We are excited to host BioPharm America and ChinaBio Day. As a city that pushes the forefront of biotech innovation, it is essential that we actively engage and host events such as these, to facilitate the collaboration needed for the continued strength of our biotech industry."

The events utilize specially designed software called partneringONE™ developed by EBD Group that makes identifying and meeting with potential business opportunities easy. partneringONE is the matchmaking engine for eighteen life science events around the world, including EBD Group's own events BIO-Europe, BIO-Europe Spring, BioPharm America, EuroMedtech™ and ChinaBio Partnering Forum. In the past year alone partneringONE has generated over 25,000 one-to-one meetings between companies across all sectors of the biotech and medtech industry value chain.

"We are honored to hold the BioPharm America, ChinaBio Day events in the dynamic city of San Francisco, which will also be home to our biotech investor conference, Biotech Showcase™, in January 2010," said Carola Schropp, President, EBD Group.

"Already home to some of the world's most innovative and successful biotech companies, EBD Group looks forward to helping the region assert its leadership role in the biotech industry. In the US, BioPharm America is unique in bringing together industry dealmakers in a forum specially designed to facilitate new strategic partnerships," Schropp added.
