Abstract: |
China
has become a global hotbed of technology development for big pharma.
All of the large multinational companies now have R&D centers
in China, most based in Shanghai. As its domestic industry rapidly
evolves, China offers a growing number of collaboration and partnering
opportunities with emerging companies, universities and institutes.
This keynote panel examines questions relevant to all pharma and
biotech companies looking for partnering opportunities in China:
- Why is China attractive as a location for both R&D and
partnering?
- What types of opportunities are big pharma seeking in China?
- How is partnering different in China than in the West?
- What hurdles do multinational companies face when looking
to partner in China?
- How can early stage companies and researchers in China attract
the attention of big pharma?

Abstract: |
Dwindling
pipelines and shrinking revenue are problems most pharmaceutical
companies are facing today. To make R&D more efficient, many
of them are building virtual development groups, especially in
China where costs are much lower. As a result, the CRO/CMO industry
is booming, and in fact, two of the largest CRO facilities in
the world are currently being built in China. This panel will
examine the impact of the outsourcing revolution in China and
how it is creating opportunities for increased productivity and
collaborative development projects as well as lowered costs.

Abstract: |
The
China government has created a strong financial stimulus to build
a solid domestic biotech/biopharma industry. This has resulted
in the launch of several major life science clusters throughout
China. Officials and executives from the top life science parks
and agencies in China present the advantages each region offers
and specific incentive programs, as well as a “where to” and “how
to” approach to establishing a presence in China.

Abstract: |
Commercializing
early stage technology is a challenge anywhere in the world. Starting
with essentially a clean sheet, China has the opportunity to do
things differently. This also means that there is little experience
and expertise at hand to draw from. The panel examines what is
currently working in China, what is not, what lessons can be gleaned
from the experience in the U.S. and Europe, and how to be successful
at moving technology developed in China from the lab into the
clinic.

Abstract: |
A partnering agreement with a pharmaceutical company may be one of the most complex transactions a biotech company will enter into as part of its business operations. Understanding the negotiation process, the structure of the agreement and the significance and potential pitfalls of certain critical terms can play a big role in forming a successful collaboration. This panel will discuss the steps involved in entering into a partnering deal, from preparation to negotiation to execution and implementation.

Abstract: |
China's
drug market is growing at an enormous speed and has become an
essential market for all big pharma and biotech players. In addition
to increasing direct investment into China, overseas players have
different initiatives and plans in forming strategic alliances
with local companies in terms of R&D, manufacturing, commercialization
as well as service. Influenced by the Chinese government incentives
and the tremendously growing talent pool, Chinese life sciences
companies are getting competitive on an international level. As
a consequence, more cross-border M&As will also take place
in this industry. Our seasoned speakers in this panel will address
in detail what are the opportunities and challenges accompanying
such exciting transactions.
