Ashley has a wealth of experience in the medical technology and healthcare sectors, focusing on healthcare and trade policy, business and financial performance and regulatory affairs. He was editor of Clinica for nine years until April 2009. He is also knowledgeable about veterinary and crop protection issues, having once held the editorship of Animal Pharm, and been assistant editor at Agrow, which are both publications of the Informa group.A member of the Institute of Linguists, he speaks French, German, Spanish and has a knowledge of Dutch. He studied business management in college from 1979-82.

Thom Rasche – Partner, Earlybird Venture Capital
Thom Rasche

Thom Rasche joined Earlybird as a Venture Partner in 2003 and was promoted to Partner in 2006. He is a seasoned executive in the medical device and diagnostic sectors with over 21 years of operational experience.

Since he joined Earlybird, Thom has been responsible for the medical device portfolio and for making new investments in this area. He has successfully led various financing rounds in both European and US based companies including Calypso Medical Technologies, Inc. (Seattle, WA) and Zonare Medical Systems, Inc. (Mountain View, CA). He was an observing board member of Hemoteq AG (Aachen, Germany) and is currently on the board of EBS Technologies GmbH (Berlin, Germany), Miracor Medizintechnik GmbH (Vienna, Austria) and Zonare Medical Systems, Inc. Leading up to the sale to Edwards Lifescience Corporation in 2012 he was also a board member of BMEYE B.V. (Amsterdam, Netherlands).

Before joining Earlybird, Thom was the Managing Director for Ethicon Endo-Surgery, a Johnson & Johnson company and was responsible for growing the company to be the market leader of minimal invasive surgery in Germany.

Prior to Johnson & Johnson, Thom was the Vice President Europe for Critikon, the inventor of non-invasive automated blood pressure monitoring where he was responsible for the European organization and the European Development Centre in Wales.

Thom has also held various senior marketing and sales positions with Johnson & Johnson in Europe and the US. Thom Rasche holds a Degree as Diplom Kaufmann (MBA equivalent) from the University of Applied Sciences in Lüneburg, Germany, specializing in marketing and human resource management.

Emilie Finiels – Analyst, Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners
Emilie Finiels

Emilie joined the Life Science team of Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners in 2011. Prior to this, she was an Analyst within the Life Science team of Crédit Agricole Private Equity (now Omnes Capital) in Paris. Emilie holds an MSc in Biochemistry and a postgraduate degree in Finance from EMLyon Business School.

Klaus Stoeckemann – Managing Partner, Peppermint VenturePartners
Klaus Stoeckemann

Klaus is Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Peppermint VenturePartners which recently launched the Peppermint Charité Biomedical Fund 1 and also manages the Peppermint VC-1 fund. Before this he was a General Partner in 3i`s international Healthcare Venture Team. He has more than 12 years Pharma experience with leading roles at Schering AG and ASTA Medica a Degussa&Hüls group company in R&D and Business Development. He holds a PhD in Biology and Pharmacology from the University of Mainz as well as an MBA from WHU / Kellogg Northwestern University in the US. Klaus has more than 12 year of experience in the Venture Capital Industry and was on 3i's side responsible for many investments and IPOs including Epigenomics, Jerini, Santhera as well as the trade sales of Evotec Neuroscience, Amaxa and Elbion. Klaus has been board member of Combinature, Epigenomics, Jerini, Elbion, Evotec Neuroscience, Amaxa, Immatics as well as IntelliDx and Zonare in the US. He focuses on Medical Devices and Health IT investments and is currently on the boards of Humedics and Implandata Ophthalmic Products.

Dennis Burns, a Partner at Technology Commercialization Group, has years of management, market development and partnering experience in US and EU medical device and biopharma firms. His executive roles have included Tem Systems GmbH, Curasan AG, Closure Medical and three divisions of Johnson & Johnson (Ortho/Cilag).

Regina Hodits – General Partner, Wellington Partners
Regina Hodits

Regina joined Wellington Partners in spring 2010 as a part-time advisor and stepped up to General Partner in January 2011. Since 2000, she has become an influential investor in the European venture capital industry, focusing on early stage and growth deals in Life Sciences. Her industry experience and her strong scientific background will help the Wellington Life Sciences team to strengthen its position in the European investment market.

Until January 2010, Regina led the life sciences efforts of Atlas Venture in Europe, a leading transatlantic venture capital firm. As a Partner at Atlas Venture, she led numerous financing rounds and was the founding investor in Bicycle Therapeutics, Fibrex, F-star and Jenavalve. In addition, she served on the Board of Egalet, Lumavita, Novamed and Protaffin and is an external director at GlaxoSmithKline's (GSK) Respiratory CEDD. Regina was also on the Board of U3 Pharma, which was acquired by Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. in 2008.

From 2000 to 2004, while working for Apax Partners, she was responsible for healthcare investments in Germany and was closely involved in investments such as Genmab, Silence Therapeutics and Wilex. She started to build her extensive network in the global healthcare industry during her tenure at McKinsey from 1997 to 2000.

In the 90s, Regina gained profound insights into the fast-growing biotech sector as university lecturer and post-doctoral researcher at the University of Vienna and the MRC Cambridge, where she collaborated extensively with emerging UK biotech companies.

Regina studied chemical engineering in Vienna and holds a PhD in biochemistry.
